The Blues’ hopes of staging an amazing comeback in the title race took a big blow last weekend as they dropped two vital points against Stoke City. Stoke had taken a shock lead early in the game through Jonathan Walters and though Didier Drogba managed to equalize before the half time whistle, Stoke had an equal chance of collecting all three points late in the game after twice hitting the post.

With Manchester United rubbing salt in their wounds by bouncing back from two goals down to beat West Ham 4-2, Chelsea are now 11 points behind the league leaders with eight games remaining, though Chelsea do have a game in hand. Coach Carlo Ancelotti admitted that it will be difficult for his side to overtake United in the title race and admitted that the draw was a fair result.

Meanwhile Wigan will be keen to repeat their excellent defensive performance against Tottenham from last weekend and collect a vital point that will see them remain in touch with Blackpool as they desperately try to avoid relegation this season.

Though Wigan had secured a shock win against Chelsea last season, they have suffered heavy defeats since that victory, conceding 14 goals in their last two games against the Blues.
