The Latics continue to impress with some pretty good displays on the field but have been unable to convert good performances into points and continue to sit at the foot of the table, just two points away from safety. Wigan came very close to collecting a vital point against Chelsea last weekend, making the Blues work hard for their chances before finally letting one through with Florent Malouda grabbing the winner in the 67th minute.

Manager Roberto Martinez was furious with the referee for allowing the goal to stand, claiming that Fernando Torres had impeded keeper Ali Al Habsi before Malouda scored the winner. The Wigan boss though was pleased with his side’s display and said that his side can avoid relegation if they put up similar performances for the remainder of the season.

Meanwhile Blackpool coach Ian Holloway will be aware that a defeat on Saturday could increase his side’s chances of dropping straight back into the Championship and will be hoping to recapture some of the form that had seen the shoot up the table early in the season.
