Having finished a credible 10th last season, Blackburn started their new season with a narrow 1-0 win against Everton thanks to a goalkeeping error by Tim Howard which allowed Nikola Kalinic to score the only goal of the match early in the first half.

Manager Sam Allardyce expressed his satisfaction over the result and revealed that he is now focusing his team on putting up excellent performances in the first ten games of the season in order to provide a perfect platform for Blackburn to launch their bid to be involved higher up the league table. The Blackburn manager will also be hoping that the takeover process finishes quickly and gives him some time to make some additions to the squad before the end of the transfer window.

Meanwhile Birmingham’s boss will be hoping that his side can continue from where they left off against Sunderland from last weekend and secure a comfortable victory in their first home game of the season. The Blues had gone two goals down midway through the second half but fought back with two goals in the first 12 minutes to collect a point against the Black Cats.
