The Bafana Bafana hosted the world cup this year and had a relatively decent outing although they failed to make it past the group stages. New coach Pitso Mosimane has received express instructions from the country’s football federation that he has to ensure South Africa qualify for the next two African Nations Cups as well as the 2014 World Cup.

Towards this end, he has chosen a relatively young 23-man squad for this game with Leeds United striker Davide Somma being the only surprise inclusion in the squad. Bernard Parker, Sthembiso Ngcobo and Kermit Erasmus are the other strikers in the squad. Katlego Mphela is out with a groin injury, so Somma will take some part in this game.

Meanwhile USA coach Bob Bradley has named a young 18-man squad for this game. New York Red Bulls' striker Juan Agudelo and Estoril defender Gale Agbossoumonde have received maiden call-ups along with goalkeeper Dominic Cervi, defender Tim Ream, midfielder Mikkel Diskerud and striker Teal Bunbury. Bradley has included just 5 members of the world cup squad for this game.
