Spain boss Vicente del Bosque has named a strong line-up for the friendly game against Mexico with 18 of the 21 players selected having played a part in the World Cup campaign early this summer. Andres Iniesta and Fernando Torres are the two major absentees from the squad with the duo yet to recover completely from injuries sustained during the competition in South Africa. Villarreal’s Santiago Cazorla has been called up though Cesc Fabregas is expected to replace Iniesta in the starting line-up after impressing in the World Cup final.

The other two players in the squad who did not travel to South Africa include Ignacio Monreal and Bruno Soriano with Monreal being the only player in the squad who is yet to make his debut for the national team.

Del Bosque continues to rely on a Barcelona core in his national squad with David Villa, Pedro Rodriguez, Xavi, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique, Carles Puyol and Victor Valdes all earning call ups in spite of the club claiming that the players are yet to regain full fitness.
