New Australia coach Holger Osieck has promised that domestic players would feature heavily in the squad to face Paraguay and he has kept his word, calling up six A-league players for this game. Brisbane Roar midfielder Matt McKay, Gold Coast defender Michael Thwaite and Sydney FC striker Alex Brosque are among the players named in the squad for this game. The players will get a chance to showcase their talent ahead of the Asian Cup in January 2011.

Meanwhile Roque Santa Cruz and Nelson Valdez have been named in the Paraguay squad for this game. The duo have had contrasting times for their respective clubs with Santa Cruz on the fringes at Man City, while Valdez has enjoyed a fantastic few weeks following his heroics against Barcelona for his club Hercules.

Australia and Paraguay have met each other on four occasions previously. The Socceroos have the advantage as they won one game, while the rest ended in draws.
