Back to back defeats to Chelsea and Liverpool has put a major dent on United’s hopes of lifting the league title this season while the defeat against Liverpool proved to be more expensive with Nani suffering a shin injury that will see the Portuguese winger miss action for at least a month.

Manager Alex Ferguson will be happy that his side will be playing in front of their home fans and will be hopeful that the absence of Nani will not prove to be very costly for his side as he attempts to secure another victory over Arsenal and book a place in the semi finals of the competition.

Meanwhile Arsenal will be looking to take full advantage of United’s poor run of form by securing a vital victory that will give them a second shot at ending their trophyless run. The Gunners suffered a shock defeat to Birmingham in the Carling Cup final but are still in contention of winning the Premier League and the Champions League apart from the FA Cup.

The Gunners’ last trophy triumph came against United back in 2004-05 season but since then have won just three and lost eight of the 14 meetings between the two sides.
