The Toffees put in an excellent display in both their games against Chelsea in the fourth round, holding the defending champions to 1-1 draws at Goodison Park and at Stamford Bridge before snatching a penalty shootout victory to book a place in the fifth round.

Manager David Moyes was delighted with his side’s victory over Chelsea and claimed that he nearly rushed out on the pitch, similar to Jose Mourinho’s style of celebrating a victory, but had to control himself. The Everton coach will be fancying his chances of going on another long run in the competition having made it all the way to the final as recently as in 2009.

While Everton do start the game as favorites to secure a victory against a Reading side that is stuck in midtable in the Championship, Moyes will be aware that his side has failed to deliver the goods this season, especially against sides that they were expected to beat comfortably.
