The Yellow Submarines hold the advantage in this Europa League knockout tie, having clinched a 3-2 victory over Leverkusen at the BayArena last Thursday. Brazilian striker Nilmar was the hero for the visitors as he netted twice in the second half to help Villarreal record a comeback win.

Bayer Leverkusen took the lead through Michal Kadlec but second half efforts from Nilmar, who came off the bench, and his Italian strike partner, Giuseppe Rossi, allowed Villarreal to go 2-1 ahead. Gonzalo Castro brought Leverkusen back on level terms, but Nilmar had the last laugh as his injury time goal gave Villarreal a stunning 3-2 win.

Leverkusen will feel hard done by the result given that they controlled the match for large stretches. Now not only do Jupp Heynckes’ men have to win at El Madrigal, they also need to do it by a healthy margin as Villarreal have three away goals at their disposal.
