Villarreal were not supposed to originally play the Europa League this season but were given entry into the competition following UEFA’s decision to disqualify Balearic Islands outfit Mallorca because of their financial problems.

 Dnepr have already played six games in the Europa League this season. They thrashed Albanian side Laci 8-2 in the first round, with seven of those eight goals coming in the return leg in Mogilev. In the second round, they beat Norwegian side Stabaek on the away goals rule thanks to Vladimir Yurchenko’s late equaliser in the second leg. Yurchenko netted in the 85^th minute in Mogilev to level the tie on aggregate.

Dnepr’s opponents in the third qualifying round were Czech side Banik Ostrava. The Belarusians won 1-0 and 2-1 in both legs to progress 3-1 on aggregate. Ihar Zyankovich scored in both ties against Banik for Dnepr.
