After just about edging out Norwegian side Molde in the third qualifying round, Stuttgart will be hoping for an easier route to the group stages when they meet Slovan Bratislava in the Europa League on Thursday. Stuttgart beat Molde 5-4 on aggregate in the previous round. The German side won 3-2 in the first leg in Norway thanks to goals from Sebastian Rudy, Zdravko Kuzmanovic and Martin Harnik.

However Molde were fired up for the return leg and took a shock 2-0 lead at the Mercedes Benz Arena with fifty minutes gone on the clock. Russian Pavel Pogrebanyak then pulled one back for Stuttgart to level the tie on aggregate. Midfielder Timo Gebhart then scored in the 93^rd minute of the fixture to give Stuttgart a 5-4 win over both legs.

Slovan Bratislava were pitted against Red Star Belgrade in the third qualifying round. Goals from Milan Ivana and Kornel Salata gave Slovan a shock 2-1 win over Red Star in the first leg. The second leg ended in a 1-1 draw despite Red Star’s best efforts, thus allowing Slovan to progress 3-2 on aggregate.
