Rangers managed to extend their unbeaten run against PSV to five games thanks to last week’s first leg result in Eindhoven. Coach Walter Smith chose to go with the 5-4-1 formation that had served the Gers well previously in Europe this season, and came away a fairly happy man from the Philips Stadium.

Rangers’ goalless stalemate becomes an even greater achievement when one considers that they were playing without first team regulars like Nikica Jelavic, Steven Naismith, Lee McCulloch, Sasa Papac, Kirk Broadfoot and Allan McGregor against the Dutch giants.

The best chances of the game went to PSV, with Marcelo and Marcus Berg both guilty of missing opportunities they should otherwise have comfortably put away. Defender Kyle Bartley, hero of Rangers’ 1-0 win over St. Mirren, had a header palmed away by PSV keeper Andreas Isaksson.
