Porto thrashed Genk 7-2 on aggregate in the playoff round to book their spot in the group stages. The Dragons rode on the back of goals from Radamel Falcao, Souza and Fernando Belluschi to win 3-0 in the first leg in Belgium.

The away leg saw Brazilian striker Hulk score a hat trick for André Villas Boas’ men. His hat trick, along with Fernando Reges’ 53^rd minute goal, completed a comfortable 4-2 victory for the Portuguese side.

Rapid Vienna got the better of Aston Villa for the second season in a row to progress to the group stages. Villa looked favourites to progress after a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Vienna but Rapid showed tremendous character to grab a 3-2 victory away from home in the second leg. Rapid’s goals in the second leg came from Atdhe Nuhiu, Mario Sonnleitner and Rene Gartler.
