As mentioned before, Benfica thrashed PSV 4-1 when the two sides met at the Estadio da Luz last Thursday. The Eagles were in great touch in the first half as they put Fred Rutten’s side to the sword and did not allow them to settle.

Pablo Aimar put Benfica ahead eight minutes before the interval and Eduardo Salvio doubled the Portuguese side’s advantage on the stroke of half time. Salvio himself added a third before Benfica took their feet off the pedestal and allowed PSV to pull one goal back through Zakaria Labyad.

However Aimar’s compatriot Javier Saviola restored Benfica’s three goal advantage in stoppage time as he netted from close range after some good work from Maxi Pereira.
