After being given hope by Tom Hateley’s last gasp free kick in Denmark, Scottish side Motherwell will be hoping to overcome a 2-1 deficit when they take on Odense in the second leg of their Europa League playoff tie. Motherwell boss Craig Brown named the same starting XI that had lost to Hibernian in the club’s SPL opener, but opted for a slightly different formation. However the Lanarkshire outfit went behind after half an hour when Motherwell skipper Chris Sorensen’s free kick evaded every one and landed in the back of Darren Randolph’s net.

Motherwell matched their opponents in every department of the game but were unable to respond to Sorensen’s opener. And thirteen minutes of time, Nigerian striker Peter Utaka made it 2-0 for Odense with a terrific solo effort.

Well midfielder Steve Jennings received his marching orders from the referee in the 87^th minute of the fixture and will miss the return leg at Fir Park. However Hateley gave the visitors hope when he scored a crucial away goal in the dying seconds of the game.
