Liverpool had little difficulty in seeing off Rabotnicki Skopje in the third qualifying round. The Reds won 2-0 in the first leg in Macedonia and followed it up with a similar scoreline in the return leg at Anfield.

Young French striker David Ngog netted a brace in Skopje and also scored the opener at Anfield. Liverpool’s other goal was scored from the spot by skipper Steven Gerrard, who also netted twice for England in their recent international friendly against Hungary.

Trabzonspor came from a goal down to beat Fenerbahce in the Turkish Cup final last season. The Maroon-Blues were trailing 1-0 at the hour mark, but goals from Umut Bulut, Engin Baytar and Gustavo Colman gave them a 3-1 victory at the end. Trabzonspor are coached by Senol Gunes, the man who lead Turkey to a third place finish at the 2002 World Cup.
