Lech suffered their first defeat in group A when they went down 3-1 to Manchester City at Eastlands. Lanky Togo forward Emmanuel Adebayor was the destructor in chief for City as he netted a hat trick against Lech.

Adebayor opened the scoring in the 13^th minute and also doubled City’s advantage twelve minutes later. Joel Tshibamba pulled one back for Lech in the 50^th minute to give the visitors fresh hope, but Adebayor put paid to them by completing his hat trick seventeen minutes from time.

If they win at Stadion Miejski on Thursday evening, Man City will be assured of qualification regardless of what happens in the other group game between Juventus and Austrian side Red Bull. City are currently first in the group with seven points while Lech are three points behind in second place.
