Gala thrashed Serbian outfit OFK Beograd 7-3 on aggregate in the third qualifying round. In the first leg in Istanbul, Gala threw away a 2-0 lead with ten minutes left on the clock and ended up drawing 2-2. However there was no repeat of it in the return leg as Gala strolled to a 5-1 win in Belgrade.

Australian midfielder Harry Kewell netted a brace in the second leg, with Mustafa Sarp, Arda Turan and Mehmet Batdal also scoring for the Turkish giants. Galatasaray’s biggest acquisition this summer has been Albanian skipper Lorik Cana from Premier League outfit Sunderland. Cana has also previously represented PSG and Marseille.

Karpaty beat Georgian outfit Zestaponi 2-0 on aggregate in the third round to set up a clash with Gala. They entered the Europa League in the second qualifying round, where they beat Icelandic side KR Reykjavík 6-2 over two legs.
