Dynamo upset Manchester City, widely considered as many people’s favourites to lift the crown, in the previous round. The Ukrainians won the first leg 2-0 in freezing conditions in Kiev thanks to goals from Andriy Shevchenko and Oleh Husyev. Man City took the lead in the return leg at Eastlands, but Mario Balotelli’s red card played into Dynamo’s hands and they managed to prevail 2-1 on aggregate.

Like Dynamo, Braga also got the better of an English side in the Round of 16. The Portuguese outfit ended the European dreams of Kenny Dalglish and Liverpool by beating them 1-0 on aggregate. Alan’s first half penalty at the Estadio Municipal separated the two sides at the end of 180 minutes of football.

Braga’s only two previous encounters against Ukrainian opposition ended in defeat for the Portuguese outfit. Dynamo are unbeaten in European competition at home since December 2009.
