Dynamo won their Round of 32 tie against Besiktas 8-1 on aggregate. Vukojevic, Andriy Shevchenko, Husyev and Yussuf netted in Istanbul to give Dynamo a 4-1 win in the first leg. The first three also netted in the reverse fixture in Kiev, with Andriy Yarmolenko also chipping in to help Dynamo register a convincing 4-0 win.

Manchester City were pitted against Greek side Aris Salonika in the previous round. Aris went into the return leg having drawn against City at home, but two early goals from Bosnian forward Edin Dzeko put paid to the Greek side’s hopes of progressing. A late Yaya Toure goal confirmed the result as City triumphed 3-0 on aggregate.

City manager Roberto Mancini played Dzeko, Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli from the start at Eastlands in an attacking formation but is unlikely to stick with it for this crucial away fixture in Kiev.
