Slovenia on their part will be fresh from their exploits in the recently concluded world cup and will be keen to push forward from there on. Coach Matjaz Kek will know that they will need to work hard to get through this group. Zlatko Dedic and Zlatan Ljubijankic are expected to lead the attack against Northern Ireland. Meanwhile Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington has recalled defender Craig Cathcart to the squad. Jonny and Corry Evans are also included as is Aaron Hughes, who has recovered from his injury. Steven Davis and David Healy also make it to the squad. George McCartney and Niall McGinn miss out with injuries.

The two sides have met twice before and honors are even as Slovenia won 2-0 against Northern Ireland in a World Cup qualifier in October 2008, while the latter won 1-0 in the return leg at Belfast
