The Scots have lost just once and won twice in the four games played against Spain on their home soil though the Spanish side’s only victory in Scotland came during the 1976 European Championship qualifiers.

However while Spain have struggled for victory against Scotland, the defending champions go into the match as clear favorites to collect all three points against a side that is expected to be their closest challengers in the group.

Scotland are off to a decent start in their qualifying campaign, collecting four points from their opening two games but manager Craig Levein will be aware that his side’s hopes of ending international absence will depend on how they play in their next couple of games.

Spain will be without two of their most creative players with Xavi and Cesc Fabregas both out of action due to injuries while Fernando Torres is out of form following a poor start to the new season.
