The Dutch were the surprise runners-up at the tournament with not many expecting them to progress so far in the competition. Coach Bert van Marwijk will be optimistic that his side can build on that performance with another strong run in the European Championship with his side expected to secure a comfortable passage from their qualifying group.

With Giovanni van Bronckhorst retired from football, van Marwijk is expected to name a new captain though the Dutch coach revealed that the player who will be wearing the armband against San Marino will be doing it on a temporary basis.

Van Marwijk will be without star player Arjen Robben who is out injured while there are concerns over Robin Van Persie who was replaced during Arsenal’s match against West Brom. Ryan Babel, Edson Braafheid, Sander Boschker, Andre Ooijer and Stijn Schaars have all been dropped from the squad with van Marwijk keen to test some new players.
