Greece start their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign with a home tie against minnows Georgia with coach Fernando Santos optimistic that his side can qualify to their third successive European Championship tournament. The Euro 2004 winners have struggled for consistency since their triumph in Portugal, missing out on a place in the 2006 World Cup while failing to progress past the group stage in Euro 2008 and World Cup 2010.

However the new Greece coach is optimistic of turning his side’s form around and will be looking to get their qualifying campaign off to a winning start on Friday. Greece have played Georgia five times before the game this weekend, winning all of the five games including a narrow 1-0 win during the 2006 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Antonis Petropoulos and Panagiotis Kone are in line to make their debut for Greece after being called up by Santos. The Greece coach has called up just two keepers in Alexandros Tzorvas and Michalis Sifakis with Tzorvas expected to continue between the sticks after a fairly good World Cup campaign.
