Tottenham started their debut Champions League campaign with a thrilling draw away to Werder Bremen in their first group stage match. Spurs had looked set for a comfortable victory over the German side after an own goal by Petri Pasanen and another by Peter Crouch had given them a two goal lead before the half hour mark. However a Hugo Almeida goal in the 43rd minute gave Bremen a way back into the match which they took full advantage of with Marko Marin grabbing the equalizer.

Manager Harry Redknapp expressed his irritation over the question of whether his side was taught a lesson in the Champions League, stating that a draw against Bremen was a very good result for any side though he would have been more happy had his side managed to hold on to their lead.

Meanwhile Twente will be looking to build on their excellent performance from their opening group stage match that saw them secure a vital point against defending champions Inter Milan. Coach Michel Preud'homme was delighted with his side’s performance but admitted that his side’s performance deserved more than a single point that Twente collected from the game.
