Spartak started brilliantly, registering a 1-0 win over Marseille on Matchday 1 thanks to an own goal from Cesar Azpilicueta. The Russian club is back in the Champions League after a four-year hiatus and coach Valeri Karpin will be delighted with his side's showing.

Zilina, meanwhile, began badly with a 1-4 loss to Chelsea on the opening day. A brace from Nicolas Anelka and goals from Michael Essien and Daniel Sturridge nullified Oravec's 55th minute strike and gave the Slovakian club a state of things to come in Europe's elite club competition. Coach Pavel Hapal will be hoping for a better showing from his side in this encounter.

This will be the two sides' first meeting in a competitive fixture. Spartak had failed to win any of their home fixtures in their last Champions League campaign in the 2006-07 season and will hope to rectify that in this game.
