After upsetting holders Inter Milan in the quarterfinals, Schalke 04 will be keen to continue their dream run in Europe this season when they meet Manchester United in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal on Tuesday night. Schalke hammered Inter 7-3 on aggregate in the quarterfinals. The German side were not expected to pose too much of a threat to the defending champions, but a stunning 5-2 triumph at the San Siro, coupled with a 2-1 victory at Gelsenkirchen, sent the Royal Blues through at the expense of Leonardo’s side.

Manchester United again showed their class as they saw off domestic rivals Chelsea 3-2 in the last eight. Goals from Javier Hernandez and Park Ji Sung allowed the Red Devils to win their second leg tie 2-1 after a solitary Wayne Rooney goal had seen them draw first blood at the Bridge.

United have a poor record against German opposition in the knockout stages of the Champions League. Dortmund, Leverkusen and Bayern Munich have all triumphed over the Red Devils in the Champions League, with the latter doing it just over twelve months ago.
