The German side is clearly struggling for form early in the season and while their domestic campaign has gone from bad to worse, a vital win over Benfica in their last match has provided them with a great chance of moving closer to clinching a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Schalke manager Felix Magath has defended his side’s form choosing to blame the referees for his side’s woes. His problems have been compounded by goalkeeper Manuel Neuer’s willingness to leave the club in the January transfer window. Manchester United are reportedly interested in the German international keeper.

Hapoel Tel Aviv on the other hand have confirmed pre-season prediction of struggling to collect points with the Israeli side losing both their opening games to sit at the bottom of the group table. While Eli Guttman’s side are not expected to get anything from their trip to Germany on Wednesday, the Tel Aviv coach will be optimistic of putting up an improved performance against the German side.
