The Portuguese coach was caught on television allegedly passing instructions to both Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos to pick up second yellow cards so that their disciplinary record will be wiped clean for the knockout stages. However such a move was viewed in dim light by UEFA who handed him a one match ban with an additional one-match ban suspended for three years and also fined the Madrid coach.

However with Madrid already booking a place in the knockout stage and assured of a place at the top of the group table regardless of the result on Wednesday, Mourinho will be happy to serve the ban with Madrid expected to field a number of young players for the game.

Madrid will be without Alonso and Ramos who were sent off against Ajax while Gonzalo Higuain is out injured.

Auxerre on the other hand will be hoping to take advantage of a weakened Madrid line up and secure vital three points that could see them qualify to the Europa League should Ajax slip up against AC Milan.
