Kobenhavn debuted in the competition back in the 2006-07 season finishing at the bottom of Group F in a forgettable campaign for players and fans alike. They will be hard pressed to avoid a similar fate this season as well because they are drawn in a group that has Barcelona and Panathinaikos.

The Danish club has strengthened their squad ahead of this campaign by signing Costa Rica midfielder Cristian Bolanos. The latter was with Norwegian club Start for two seasons and has scored 12 goals in 44 games for them.

Meanwhile Rubin were the surprise package of last season, beating the then defending champions Barcelona by a 2-1 margin. With the confidence of that win egging them on, the Russian champions will hope they can navigate through the group stages this time. The arrivals of Carlos Eduardo, Salvatore Bocchetti, Giedrius Arlauskis, Aleksei Medvedev and Obafemi Martins have strengthened the squad immensely and fans will hope they can progress into the knock out stages in this competition.
