Cluj had debuted in the Champions League in the 2008-09 season, but missed out last year. This time the Romanian titleholders are placed in a tough Group E that also includes German powerhouse Bayern Munich and Italian club Roma. In such a scenario, it is vital that they do not drop points in this game if they are to make it to the latter stages of the tournament.

Cluj have already clashed against Roma in this competition two years ago, emerging 2-1 winners. Coach Andrea Mandorlini will hope his side can display the same resilience this time around as well.

The Swiss club has had two miserable seasons in Europe, bowing out in the group stages of the Champions League in 2008-09 and in the Europa League in 2009-10. Basel coach Thorsten Fink will be keen to avoid a similar fate during this season and towards that end will want his side to collect all three points from this one.
