The Portuguese side had impressed in the qualifying stages of the competition but their maiden group stage game ended in their heaviest defeat on the European stage as Arsenal toyed with their opponents to secure a thumping 6-0 victory. With his side off to a decent start in the domestic league, Paciencia will be optimistic of a far better display from his side as he looks to avoid a second straight defeat.

Shakhtar Donetsk on the other hand got their Champions League campaign off to a winning start as a Darijo Srna goal late in the second half helped them secure a narrow 1-0 win over Partizan. With his side set to face Arsenal in a double header, manager Mircea Lucescu will be keen to secure maximum points against their most likely rivals for the second qualifying spot from the group.
