Benfica will be hoping to put behind the disappointment of missing out on a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League by holding on to their third spot when they welcome Schalke in their final group game on Tuesday. Watch all the live Champions League action here on Live Sport Network

The Portuguese champions suffered a shock 3-0 defeat to Hapoel Tel Aviv in their last group match as they were completely outplayed by the Israeli side to lose 3-0. The result means that Benfica could mathematically finish their European campaign at the bottom of the group table which will be a low point indeed even if they are yet to hit the highs of last season.

On the other hand, Champions League has proved to be a silver lining for Schalke in what is quickly proving to be a disastrous season for the German club. After the highs of narrowly missing on the league title last season, Schalke is desperately fighting against relegation and some good performances on the European stage has managed to save coach Felix Magath’s job at the club.

Schalke booked their place in the knockout stage of the competition with a convincing win over Lyon in front of their home fans. With qualification to the next stage wrapped up, Magath is expected to rest some of his key players for the trip to Portugal.
