Both the teams are level on three points but with AS Roma facing a difficult encounter against group leaders Bayern Munich, both Basel and CFR Cluj will be aware that three points from their next game could provide them with a decent chance of pulling off an upset and qualify from the group ahead of the bookies favorites, Roma.

Basel go into the match on the back of a narrow defeat to Roma in their last match. The Italian giants had taken a two goal lead in the first half thanks to goals from Jeremy Menez and Francesco Totti and though Alexander Frei managed to reduce the deficit, Leandro Greco restored Roma’s two goal lead. Xherdan Shaqiri managed to score a second for Basel but the Swiss side were unable to score a late equalizer.

Cluj on the other hand were beaten comprehensively by Bayern who rode high on Mario Gomez’s hat trick while Thomas Muller scored a fourth deep in injury time. Coach Sorin Cartu will be aware that a similar performance on Tuesday could all but end their hopes of progressing to the next stage.
