Martinez managed Swansea between 2007 and 2009 before leaving the Swans for the DW Stadium. He guided the Welsh side to the League One title in 2008 and helped them return to the Championship before opting for a switch to the Premier League with Wigan.

Jordi Gomez and Charles N’Zogbia netted for Wigan in that comeback win after Preston had taken the lead midway through the first half through Keith Tracy.

Swansea rode on the back of a Scott Sinclair hat trick to sink Peterborough 3-1 in the previous round. Sinclair scored twice in the first half and once in the second to put the Swans into the fourth round at the expense of Posh.
