Birmingham edged out local rivals Aston Villa to set up a semifinal meeting with the Hammers. Alex McLeish’s side took the lead through Sebastian Larsson’s 12^th minute penalty, only for Villa to equalise through Gabby Agbonlahor. Blues were second best for most of the game but got the decisive goal through lanky striker Nikola Zigic in the 84^th minute.
