Brentford progressed to this stage of the league cup by humbling Hull City 2-1 in the second round. Goals from Robbie Simpson and Marcus Bean gave Brentford a great come from behind win after Mark Cullen had put Hull City in the lead in the 6th minute. This is a great achievement for Brentford, who were humbled 0-1 by Bristol City in the first round last season.

Meanwhile Everton progressed through to the third round following a 5-1 win over Huddersfield. Goals from Fellaini, Jack Rodwell, Jermaine Beckford, Louis Saha and Leon Osman nullified Johnny Heitinga's own goal and gave Everton a comfortable win. Toffees boss David Moyes will hope for a similar outing from this game as well.

Last season Everton had bowed out in the fourth round after a 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur.
