Uzbekistan were swept aside 0-6 by Australia in their semifinal with goals from Harry Kewell, Sasa Ognenovski, David Carney, Brett Emerton, Carl Valeri and Robbie Kruse gave Australia a fine win and left Uzbekistan coach Vadim Abramov shell-shocked. Nevertheless he has expressed confidence that his side will compete in this game and try and finish the competition in style.

Meanwhile Japan and South Korea were deadlocked at 2-2 after end of extra time in their semi-final. Ki Sung-yong had put the Koreans ahead, but Ryoichi Maeda equalized soon after. Japan took the lead in the 97th minute through Hajime Hosogai, only for Hwang Jae-won to level things up seconds before the close. South Korea failed to convert any of their penalties, while Japan converted three of theirs to make it to the finals. Coach Cho Kwang-rae was disappointed with the result, but still praised the fighting spirit of his side and expressed hope that they could do the business in this game.

The losing semi-finalists will not be happy to turn up for this game, but the coaches and fans will want to end the campaign in style.
