Saudi Arabia are one of the most successful teams to have played in the Asian Cup, winning the tournament three times. However their last triumph came back in 1996 and though they have managed to qualify to two of the three finals since then, they have failed to add to their tally.

Jose Peseiro’s side are once again favorites to lift the trophy this time around and have been picked in a relatively straight forward group with only Japan expected to provide them with any real challenge during the group stage.

Syria coach Valeriu Tita will be aware that his side have a very difficult task on hand if they are to cause any upset though the Romanian coach will be happy if Syria finishes at least third in the group stage.
