The tournament will come as a stiff test for coach Alberto Zaccheroni who replaced Takeshi Okada who left the post following a successful World Cup run last year. The Samurai Blue are clear favorites to win the tournament this time having lifted the trophy on three of the last five occasions.

Jordan on the other hand are not expected to pose any challenge in the group that also includes three-time Asian champions Saudi Arabia. This will be Jordan’s second Asian Cup tournament with the side last appearing in 2004 when they progressed to the quarter finals.

Both the teams have met just twice before with both the games ending in a draw including the 2004 Asian Cup quarter finals which Japan won through a penalty shootout.
