Trailing 1-3 after the first leg, Swiss side FC Zurich are almost certain to face elimination when they meet Italian giants AC Milan at the Letzigrund Stadium on Thursday in the UEFA Cup. After a stuttering start to the season, Milan seem to have recovered and have posted four wins on the trot, which makes them strong favourites going into this round. FC Zurich lost the first leg 1-3 at the San Siro, which theoretically means that a 2-0 is enough for them to knock Milan out. They beat Widnau 6-0 in the Schweizer Cup and then saw off Neuchatel Xamax 3-0 in the league, with Alexandre Alphonse scoring twice. Zurich are currently two points behind league leaders Basel, who head the table with 24 points from 10 games.

Milan, regarded by many as favourites to win the UEFA Cup this season, won the first leg thanks to goals from Alexandre Pato and Marco Boriello and an own goal from Hannu Tihinen. They then beat Lazio 4-1, Reggina 2-1 and shocked an in form Inter 1-0 on Sunday, with Ronaldinho scoring the winner. Marco Borriello’s injury in the game against Reggina means he misses out, and so does midfield genius Andrea Pirlo. Should Inzaghi not be fit, we could see Kaka, Pato and Ronaldinho head Milan’s attack in a Christmas Tree formation. We’d probably see Massimo Ambrosini sit in front of Maldini and Kaladze, with Gattuso and Seedorf ahead of him.
