After being stunned by C.D.Nacional in the first leg of their Europa League playoff round tie in Madeira, Zenit St Petersburg welcome their Portuguese opponents to Russia this week for the return leg. Zenit did lose the first leg 4-3, but scoring three times on the road means that they need only one goal at home to send Nacional out. Igor Semshov scored twice for Anatoly Davydov’s side, and Fatih Tekke also found the back of the net in the 93^rd minute of the game as Zenit kept their hopes of progressing to the next round alive.

Turkish striker Tekke was again the hero for Zenit in their weekend game against Lokomotiv Moscow. He headed home from a Szabolcs Huszti cross to equalise for Zenit after Vagner Love had opened the scoring for Lokomotiv.

Nacional would have been very happy with the result in Madeira, but they could have done without that late Tekke goal that gave Zenit renewed hope ahead of the return leg. Luis Alberto, Joao Aurelio, Rodrigo Silva and Ruben Micael were the scorers for Nacional in the first leg.

Nacional were beaten 3-0 by FC Porto in their weekend Portuguese Liga game. Nacional held their own for more than an hour, but their resistance was broken when Cleber was adjudged to have handled the ball. In the protests that followed, the referee gave Cleber and Clebao their marching orders, and Radamel Falcao coolly converted the resultant spot kick. Porto added two more goals as Nacional eventually slumped to defeat.
