Andrei Arshavin grabbed a valuable away goal for Zenit although they could still be eliminated because of the two-goal deficit.

If Marseille make it through to live UEFA Cup quarterfinals they will have beaten a Russian side for the second time in succession having accounted for FC Spartak Moscow by an aggregate score of 2-3 in the previous round.

Marseille coach Erik Gerets has managed to score one over his Zenit counterpart Dick Advocaat and will be keen that his side finishes off in style. Meanwhile Advocaat will be in the second game of his three-match live soccer ban for gross misconduct.

Marseille are also the only French club left in the competition and will be hoping to make it to the quarterfinals and erase memories of defeat by Zenit at the same stage two years ago. However at that time Zenit had grabbed a 1-0 win in France,
