With Barcelona not playing until Sunday, Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini will be keen to increase the pressure on their title rivals by closing the gap to just two points. Los Blancos have recovered well from their shock defeat to Athletic Bilbao by notching up three straight wins including a comfortable 3-0 win over Espanyol last weekend.

Karim Benzema will be unavailable for the trip to Xerez after injuring himself during the game against Espanyol. However Gonzalo Higuain has recovered from his injury and should regain his place in the starting lineup.

Meanwhile Xerez coach Nestor Gorosito will be hoping that his side can come away from the match against Madrid with minimal damage as he looks to help his side climb out of the drop zone.

Xerez had suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat to Madrid early this season and Gorosito will be hopeful that his side can improve on that performance and collect a point from the game on Saturday.
