Emmanuel Adebayor scored the winning goal for City, who wasted half a dozen chances to put the game beyond Wolves' reach. Mick McCarthy's side did however come close to equalising as Matt Jarvis forced an excellent save from Shay Given. Andy Keogh also struck the woodwork, but Wolves goalie Wayne Hennessey was easily the busier of both keepers on the day. Wolves were beaten at this stage of the competition last season by League Two side Rotherham United. The game ended 0-0 after extra time, and the Millers emerged winners in the penalty shootout. Kevin Foley and Stephen Elliott missed their spot kicks for Wolves. Swindon started off their campaign in poor fashion as they were thrashed by Gillingham, but the Robins then bounced back to pick up five points from their next two games. Five would have been seven had Kieran Lee had not scored a last gasp equaliser for Oldham on Saturday. Alex Marrow had given Oldham the lead at Boundary Park, but Swindon struck late in the game through goals from Jon Paul McGovern and Billy Paynter. Just as the Robins looked set for their second win of the season, Lee scored a rather fortuitous goal deep into injury time. McGovern and Paynter were also on target when Swindon beat MK Dons 4-1 in the first round of the competition two weeks ago. Can Wolves avoid a repeat of last season's result?
