The Latics suffered a heavy 9-1 defeat to Spurs last time the two teams met back in November with Jermain Defoe scoring five goals. Both the teams have since then struggled for consistency with Spurs dropping out of the top four while Wigan are in serious danger of getting sucked into a relegation fight.

Manager Roberto Martinez will be expecting a vastly improved performance from his side and will be hopeful that they can repeat last season’s performance and collect three vital points against Spurs.

There are no major injury concerns for Wigan with James McCarthy recovering in time to play against Bolton Wanderers in the midweek.

Meanwhile Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp will be expecting nothing less than three points from the game this weekend. Spurs are currently sixth in the league table, two points behind fourth placed Manchester City who do have a game in hand.

With City playing against Liverpool this weekend, Redknapp will be keen to take advantage of any slip ups but will be aware that his side will have to improve if they are to maintain their Champions League challenge for the rest of the season.
