A poor run of just three points from last five games has put Wigan once again in danger of being relegated but with Burnley and Hull City not playing until the weekend, manager Roberto Martinez will be looking to put more pressure on their fellow relegation strugglers by collecting three vital points in the midweek.

The Latics go into the match on the back of a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Fulham last weekend. Jason Scotland had given Wigan the lead in the first half but Fulham fought back to equalize through Stefano Okaka Chuka before Brede Hangeland wrapped up the points midway through the second half.

Meanwhile Portsmouth go into the match against Wigan with a severely weakened squad after it was revealed that as many as six first team players would be unable to play for the club again since Pompey cannot afford to pay bonuses detailed in their contracts.

Richard Kingson remains the only major doubt for Wigan with Emerson Boyce expected to regain full fitness before the kick off on Wednesday.
