Manchester City bounced back from their 3-1 defeat to Chelsea in a spectacular fashion as they demolished Portsmouth 6-0 at the City of Manchester Stadium on the weekend. Robinho scored his second goal in as many matches for City with Jo, Richard Dunne, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Ched Evans and Fernandes Gelson also on target.

 

 

Manager Mark Hughes expressed his delight at the performance but added that they could have had won it by a bigger margin had the strikers managed to take their chances. City completely dominated Portsmouth in the match and will be confident of repeating the performance against Wigan this Sunday.

Wigan have managed to collect just four points from their last five matches and fans will be pleased if their side can collect at least a point out of their clash against Manchester City.

Wigan managed to draw both their matches against City last season but will now face a stronger team that has been significantly boosted by the return of Wright-Phillips and the capture of Robinho.

 

 

Steve Bruce has avoided all talk about the exit of Emile Heskey so far although media reports speculate the England striker could exit for greener pastures in January.

The Latics hold the upper hand over Manchester City in Premiership encounters with Wigan winning four and drawing two of the six matches played so far but Hughes will be optimistic that he can finally lead City to win over his former Manchester United team mate this Sunday.
