The Latics have almost gone unnoticed this season thanks to the attention lavished on Liverpool's title credentials. However Steve Bruce's side have over performed if anything, this season and have climbed to the seventh spot on the league table with 33 points from 24 games. In their last game, they held Aston Villa to a 0-0 draw.

It will be interesting to see how Bruce copes with the departure of Wilson Palacois and Emile Heskey. Both players have been pillars around whom Wigan have built their season so far. Heskey's move to Aston Villa was an expected one as he could have moved for free at the end of the season. However the departure of Palacois to Spurs has angered Bruce no end. He has brought in Newcastle winger Charles N'Zogbia and Colombian striker Hugo Rodallega in January and will hope they help his side in the push for a spot in Europe next season.

 

 

Meanwhile Fulham have had a mixed season although they currently occupy the 9th spot on the table with 29 points from 22 games. The Cottagers beat Portsmouth 3-1 last week with Erik Nevland bagging a brace, while Andy Johnson scored the other goal. David Nugent pulled one back for Pompey, but it was too little too late.

Manager Roy Hodgson has reconciled himself with Jimmy Bullard's departure to Hull and has secured the loan signing of French midfielder Olivier Dacourt from Inter Milan. Hodgson has also secured the services of Derby County midfielder Giles Barnes on loan until the end of the season.

 

 

An Andy Johnson brace had ensured Fulham collected all three points in their 2-0 win over Wigan in the reverse fixture at Craven Cottage earlier this season.
