A brilliant performance by Wigan saw them claim a vital point against Chelsea on Monday. Chelsea looked on course for an easy win after taking the lead in the second half through Michael Essien but Emile Heskey scored the equalizer in the final minute of the match to snatch a vital point for Wigan in their fight to avoid relegation from the league.

The win leaves Wigan in 15th position in the league table with 35 points from 34 matches, 6 points ahead of Bolton Wanderers with just four matches remaining in the season. Manager Steve Bruce will now be looking for a repeat performance this weekend against a Tottenham Hotspur side that is struggling in the league after assuring themselves a place in the UEFA Cup for the next season.

Juande Ramos' side dropped more points against Middlesbrough leaving them with just two wins in their last eight matches. Spurs had taken the lead in the first half through an own goal by Jonathan Grounds but Stewart Downing equalized for Boro in the 69th minute to snatch a point for his side.

Ramos has expressed his desire of challenging for a Champions League spot next season but will be disappointed by the level of determination shown by his players since the Carling Cup win in February. Ramos is expected to be an active player in the transfer market this summer and will be assessing the performance of his players in the remaining four matches before deciding on the areas needed to be bolstered in the summer.
